Connecting and Collaborating: Our Team attending recent industry events.

Here at The Essential English Centre, we’re always striving to stay at the forefront of the English Language Teaching (ELT) industry. A key part of that is actively participating in industry events, and recently, Bairbre and Catherine have been to the English UK Conference and AGM, English UK Parliamentary Reception and English UK North Spring meeting, representing our school and bringing back valuable insights.

Bairbre catching up with industry peers at the English UK Annual Conference

English UK provides crucial updates, market intelligence, and guidance that helps accredited schools like ours navigate the ELT landscape. Their conferences are fantastic platforms for understanding the broader picture and shaping the future of ELT in the UK.

Attending these events provides an invaluable opportunity to catch up with industry colleagues and share information. The ELT world is fast-paced, and being able to discuss current trends, challenges, and successes with peers from across the sector helps us all grow and adapt. These conversations often spark new ideas and reinforce best practices, ultimately benefiting our students and our school community.

The English UK Conference and AGM

The English UK Conference and AGM was an excellent event, with 150 members attending in person and an additional 30 participating online. The agenda featured a series of insightful sessions, including those from the Department for Business and Trade, offering critical perspectives on current market dynamics and future trends. Further valuable insights were shared by key industry partners, including Cambridge University Press and Assessment. These sessions provided essential updates and facilitated important discussions amongst all attendees.

English UK Parliamentary Reception

Catherine attended English UK’s Parliamentary reception – along with our school mascot, Liam!

The English UK Parliamentary Reception hosted 14 Members of Parliament and 3 members of the House of Lords. English UK formally introduced their crucial position paper, outlining strategic recommendations for governmental support of the UK ELT industry. We are all working hard to ensure English language students can travel to the UK and benefit from our excellent education.

The presence of over 60 English UK members underscored the collective commitment to bolstering our sector. Feedback from both member attendees and parliamentary representatives was overwhelmingly positive, affirming the event’s effectiveness in raising awareness at government level. We are proud to be associated with an organisation so dedicated to English language education in the UK.

English UK North: Spring Meeting

The English UK North Spring meeting was a fantastic chance for our team to meet other Northern schools to discuss a wide variety of issues are specific to our region of the UK. There’s a real sense of community among schools in the North of England, and these regional connections are incredibly important. It’s great to share experiences unique to our region and collaborate on initiatives that can strengthen the ELT sector here. Thank you to Andrew Hjort and Melton College York for welcoming us!

Thank you to Bairbre and Catherine for their active participation and the knowledge they’ve brought back to The Essential English Centre. It’s all part of our commitment to providing an excellent learning experience for all our students!
