How to improve your IELTS Reading score
I have been preparing students for the Academic IELTS exam for 15 years and one of the main things I hear students tell me after...
Although the weather gets colder and the nights get darker, autumn is a magical time in Manchester with so many amazing things to do. From Halloween celebrations to firework displays, Manchester really is the place to be!
We celebrate Halloween on 31st October, but celebrations often take place in the week before Halloween. During this spooky season, you can find lots of big inflatable monsters all over the City Centre. On the 31st October, lots of famous landmarks in the City Centre even turn green to celebrate!

If you go by tram to the famous Trafford Centre, take a break from shopping to discover their new Halloween Trail and also a pumpkin patch. You can walk through the fields and pick the perfect pumpkin to carve – a perfect activity to do with friends!

And of course, Halloween wouldn’t be complete without a party to dress up and celebrate the occasion. Make sure to find your scariest costume and check out iconic venues such as Diecast, Kargo or the Printworks for some scary Halloween fun.
Across the UK, we celebrate bonfire night on the 5th November. Fireworks are a traditional part of the celebrations, and many people will go to a big bonfire to watch a fireworks display. If you want to be part of these traditional celebrations, there are lots of places in Manchester you can go! Wrap up warm and head to Freight Island in Mayfield Park to watch a firework display, including seasonal treats like candyfloss, mulled wine and hot chocolate. If you want to head out of the city centre, hop on a short bus or tram to places like Didsbury, Stockport or Bury and soak up the atmosphere at a traditional bonfire, or watch an organised fireworks display. It is the perfect opportunity to spend a fun evening with friends and experience a true traditional Bonfire Night!
After a weekend of parties and celebrations, sometimes a relaxing weekend is the perfect way to have some down-time and explore the city. The Northern Quarter is a dynamic city centre neighbourhood known for its independent shops and diverse culture, so this is the perfect time to check it out and make yourself feel like a local!

If you prefer some green space, Manchester city centre has beautiful parks to relax in, including some just a few minutes’ walk from our school!

To truly get out into nature, just half an hour by car is the beautiful Dovestone Reservoir, popular with both locals and tourists alike! It is a wonderful place to enjoy the fabulous colours of autumn.

Whatever you like to do, Manchester will always be a vibrant and amazing city – and living here is the perfect opportunity to make the most of it!
