IELTS exam Writing Task 2 – Topics
If you are preparing to take the IELTS exam you might be wondering which topics to research, especially for Writing Task 2.
How do you know which topics to prepare for? Well, the answer is that you simply do not know, but there are still valuable preparation techniques you can do to help you to get a high score.
Read, read and then read again!
For the IELTS Writing Task 2 you could be asked to write about anything. Your IELTS preparation should include acquiring as much knowledge as possible on as many topics as possible. Here is some advice on how to approach this:
- You can do this by reading current topics in newspapers, news magazines and science articles – in your own language and in English. After reading about a subject you should then form your own opinions on these subjects.
- The more you know about a subject, the easier it will be to find a way to write about it. From the articles you read on a daily basis, you should then further read about 3-7 topics each week to get a deeper understanding.
- Take your pen and underline new vocabulary. During the exam you will need to use as many different words, idioms and phrases as you can. Make it at habit to become aware of how news articles and magazines do this.
- Practise formulating sentences with your opinion and then practise saying and writing these in different ways, using different vocabulary and grammatical structures.
Increasing your topic knowledge should be a key part of your preparation and will help you to get a high score in the IELTS test.
