How will you test my level?

Before joining the Academic IELTS course, we will need to understand more about your current level of English.  We may ask you to take a level assessment before you arrive, or provide us with information about your previous English language studies.

On your first day at school, you will also take a level assessment with one of our teachers.  Your level will then be discussed with you and information about your class and start time will be given to you.

How many weeks should I study?

Before you start your course, we will discuss which score you require for the Academic IELTS test with you, and will then guide you on how many weeks we think you should study for.

Students can study from 1 week up to 44 weeks.  The recommended number of weeks will depend on your language goals and available time. We recommend that students study for 12 weeks in order to improve by one full level.  Your progress also depends on the amount of time you practise outside of your lessons, including minimising the use of your first language.

How will you monitor my progress?

Our academic team wants to ensure you are making the best possible progress during your course. This is extremely important to us.

We do regular progress tests and record all results, to make sure we can track your improvement.   You will also have an individual tutorial with your teacher every four weeks. If you are on a longer course, you will also have a tutorial with the Director of Studies every twelve weeks.

Our method of continual assessment means we can give you detailed updates on your progress at any stage during your course.

Can I change level during the course?

If you would like to change level, you can speak to our Director of Studies who will advise you about this.  The DoS will check your weekly test results and do a ‘level up’ test to check that you are ready to move.
